Our Purpose

Supporting Marginalised Families

Our Mission

To encourage and provide support services and activities for parents and carers of young children. We provide training programmes for families and communities that build and develop their skills in the home, community, and workplace.

Our Approach

We work in partnership with service providers to increase engagement and participation in services. Our strength lies in our community-led approach, providing a compassionate, culturally sensitive space for families facing extreme poverty and racial inequality.

Our Impact

We deliver volunteer-led workshops, training, activities, and events through cultural lenses to over 3,000 beneficiaries each year, nearly all of whom are migrants. We train past beneficiaries to take on more responsibility within our organisation, embedding lived experience in our approach.

Parents and children from marginalised communities in a supportive community setting at My Child and Me programme
"My Child and Me provides early intervention support to increase parents' understanding of their children's mental health. We have evidenced the difference it makes at improving parents' understanding and showing them how to manage it within a family setting. We are grounded in our local community, responsive to need and willing to adapt accordingly."

Addressing Critical Mental Health Needs

Southwark is home to the country's largest Black African and Caribbean population, with increasing numbers of refugees and asylum seekers. An estimated 8,850 children aged 5-17 in Southwark need treatment for mental health disorders, but only a minority receive it.

Proven Impact

Last year's evaluation showed parents' understanding of mental health more than doubled from 2.8 to over 5.6 out of 10.

Cultural Competency

We provide culturally-competent care that enhances communication and trust, delivered by practitioners from marginalised communities.

Early Intervention

We work with parents of children aged 4 and over, before common mental illnesses begin to develop, preventing more severe conditions.

Breaking Barriers

We serve as a crucial first step for the most deprived families in Southwark, breaking down cultural barriers to mental health support.

Early Intervention Matters

Supporting parents before mental health issues escalate, creating lasting change for families and communities.
